NetWitness(R) Hosts Third Annual ‘Ride for the Kids’ Charity Event
September 8, 2009 by Hersey · Leave a Comment
On Saturday, September 12th, NetWitness Corporation will host its 3rd annual ‘Ride for the Kids’ charity fundraiser in Northern Virginia. The Ride for the Kids is a motorcycle ride led by executives from NetWitness.
This year, all donations will benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia (DSANV). The mission of the DSANV is to ensure that all individuals with Down syndrome and their families receive the support necessary to participate in, contribute to and achieve fulfillment of life in their community. Over the past two years, the NetWitness Ride for the Kids events have raised nearly $50,000 to benefit children with Opsoclonus-Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS), a rare neurological disorder, and Fragile X, a family of genetic conditions which can affect individuals and families in various ways.
To help meet and exceed last year’s donations, NetWitness is encouraging the community to participate in the September 12th event. Whether you are a motorcycle rider and wish to participate in the 120 mile / 3 hour scenic country ride, just want to attend the BBQ with your family, or both, please come out and support the event!

Several individuals in the Amherst area are planing a motorcycle fund raising ride for Lesa Roakes to help her offset the costs of her ongoing treatment, (she’s battling cancer).
On August 29, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM we will have a 90 mile motorcycle ride thru the Blue Ridge Mountains and along the Blue Ridge Parkway, the ride will start and finish at the Amherst County High School, where we will have two blue grass bands and a DJ, as well as raffles for door prizes and a meal.
I would like for you to pass this flyer along to as many people as you can, we would like to have a big turnout to show our support for Lesa during this most difficult time, I’m sure she will appreciate the support.
Life Saving Crew Holds Memorial Ride for Fallen Member
July 27, 2009 by Hersey · Leave a Comment
GLADE SPRING, Va. – Billie Jo Fogleman wanted a motorcycle for her 40th birthday.
So her husband, Jim, got her a shiny black Harley Davidson Sportster. Just weeks later on July 11, her first big ride with her husband and five friends, she was killed in an accident two hours away in North Carolina.
The Foglemans are longtime members of Washington County’s Life Saving Crew, and her death weighed heavily on the area’s close-knit rescue teams.
“It’s a brotherhood,” said friend Jerry “Pokey” Poston of volunteer rescue workers throughout the region, “We’re a family outside a family. And it’s been hell.”
Dozens of Southwest Virginia’s rescue volunteers, many of whom share Fogleman’s motorcycle hobby, gathered at the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew station Sunday afternoon for a memorial ride and fundraiser.
The ride was originally planned as a 100-mile circle, but was cut short because of rain.
Memorial Benefit Ride & BBQ – Franklin, VA – July 18, 2009

In Franklin, VA, July 18 (next Sat) there will be a fund raising event for the family of the late Sargent Gary Falls. He was a much loved member of this little town, and he died before he was due to retire on JULY 1, 2009. The event is to be held at the Franklin Police Station….$15 a rider, $10 passenger and $7 meals for non-riders. BBQ, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Rolls and a bunch of policemen and women cooking it. His family is in dire need and this is to benefit his family. This little community will not be the same without his kind, understanding and southern gentlemanly ways. A policeman or not, he was just a great, all around person. Airborne Division, Vietnam Vet, DARE officer…Loved by all in this little town.
Any questions please contact the Franklin Police Department on Pretlow Road. His family needs and appreciates any help you can give them.
