March 17, 2010 by Hersey · Comments Off on Sergeant Mike Horton Memorial Ride – March 21, 2010
It’s with a great deal of sadness that we pass on to you the passing of Michael Lee Horton. Michael is the son of one of Newport News’s finest, Sergeant Mike Horton of the Newport News PD. Many of you know Mike senior as a friendly patron of RJ’s Restaurant and Sports Pub.
Rarely do we have the ability to give back to our public servants that risk so much on our behalf. Please join us on a memorial ride to help support Michael’s son Shane on March 21. The ride will depart RJ’s Restaurant and Sports Pub (12473 Jefferson Avenue) about 1 p.m., travel the Colonial Parkway and Rt. 199 to the Polo Club (1303 Jamestown Road) in Williamsburg, and back to RJ’s for entertainment and raffles. There is no entry fee. Donations from the heart will be accepted. Ride pace and grouping is up to each individual. Please try to return to RJ’s by 4 p.m. For additional details you can contact Mr. Stan Morgan @ 713-0659.

November 10, 2009 by Hersey · Comments Off on Officers On Motorcycles To Patrol Va Interstates
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) ― Law enforcement officers on motorcycles will be out on interstates in southeast Virginia this week to crack down on speeding and other violations.
The Motor Enforcement, Accident Reduction effort, referred to as Project M.E.A.R., will include officers from Virginia State Police along with the Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach police departments. The Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office also is participating.
Throughout the year, law-enforcement agencies work together on projects to increase enforcement on roads, track down people wanted on warrants and to identify criminal activity in undercover operations.
I counted about 8 on I-64 between Greenbrier Parkway and Indian River Road today at lunch, so watch yourself out there.

9th Annual FLEETRIDE
“Rumble through the Tunnels”
Saturday, October 10th, 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
This annual Police escorted ride was started by Bayside Harley-Davidson in 2000, as a way to give back to the large military community of customers, friends and neighbors, both active duty and retired. The ride, which has become a signature event of the Hampton Roads Fleet Week celebration, “rumbles” through the areas major tunnels connecting the 7 cities of the Tidewater area, and is one of the largest motorcycle oriented military commemorations in the United States. Every year a diverse group of individuals on all different types of motorcycles come out in a resounding manner to show their support for the areas active duty and retired military members and their families. The proceeds of the event go to Navy Support Organizations including the Navy’s Morale Welfare & Recreation (MWR) and the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). Although the ride is free for active and retired military, many of these riders still make generous donations to help other military personnel and their families through hardships and difficult family separations.
