An upsurge in motorcyclist deaths was reversed last year in Virginia, but state officials say too many fatalities still are occurring.
Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Melanie Stokes is reminding drivers to be more aware as the weather improves.
“As the weather gets warmer, more motorcycle riders are hitting the roads in Virginia,” she said. “Motorists need to share the road with motorcycle riders, while motorcyclists are reminded to follow the rules of the road and to wear helmets and other protective gear that will increase their visibility.”

On a picture perfect August day, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation believes that it elevated it’s lobbying efforts to a new level. For several months the MRF had initiated letter, e-mail and phone correspondence with the Republican National Committee (RNC) requesting a meeting. The hope was to discuss our concerns with them over several appointees and members of President Bush’s administration. We felt that going to the hierarchy of the Republican Party would be a unique course of action to attempt to
influence this (and future) administrations.
Motorcyclist killed after eluding police in York County

A motorcyclist, who hit the gas rather than stop for police in York County, was killed early today when he lost control and crashed, State Police said.
Sgt. Michelle Cotten, a State Police spokeswoman, identified the victim as Dustin Joe Barrack, 22, of the 300 block of Yorktown Road.
