Hillsville VABA Swap Meet – April 16, 2011
We will have our first annual Swap Meet at the VFW Fairgrounds, route 58 in Hillsville, VA on April 16th, 2011.

This will include motorcycles, classic cars, and hot rods. Admission is only $5.00.
Inside and outside vendor spots are available at a very reasonable cost.

Officers On Motorcycles To Patrol Va Interstates

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) ― Law enforcement officers on motorcycles will be out on interstates in southeast Virginia this week to crack down on speeding and other violations.

The Motor Enforcement, Accident Reduction effort, referred to as Project M.E.A.R., will include officers from Virginia State Police along with the Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach police departments. The Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office also is participating.

Throughout the year, law-enforcement agencies work together on projects to increase enforcement on roads, track down people wanted on warrants and to identify criminal activity in undercover operations.

100 years of motorcycle design on display in Portsmouth

This summer the Courthouse Galleries space is looking more like its Olde Towne neighbor, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.

Inside, motorcycles are everywhere.

There are 40 of them spanning a century in design, from a 1912 Triumph once owned by an Irish outlaw to a 2009 Zero that runs on electricity.

Visitors will find racing and riding garb from notable bikers, even from the Motor Maids, a national association of women riders founded in 1940. A section on local legends and videos of races round out the resemblance to a sports center.

Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day is this coming Monday, June 15

Motorcycle and scooter riders’ 18th annual commuting day is this coming Monday, June 15th. Participation is estimated to triple the number of riders on the road. Motorcycle and scooter groups and organizations actively encourage riders to commute by cycle on this day.

Two wheeled commuters of all ages, and from all walks of life seek employer support for this form of transportation and increased public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.

More motorcycles and scooters in the mix of vehicles makes urban parking easier and traffic flow better, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. Studies have also shown that across the same distances, the average cycle or scooter rider will reach their destinations in less time than automobile drivers. Many motorcycles and scooters also consume less resources per mile than automobiles.

“Riding to work on this day is fun and shows the positive value of motorcycling. For many people, riding is a socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits,” stated Andy Goldfine, this year’s event organizer.

International Female Ride Day – May 1, 2009

Flagged for the first Friday of May each year, International Female Ride Day, occurring this year on May 1st, prepares to host its third year celebrating women motorcycle enthusiasts around the world. The event has fast become “the date” in women rider’s agendas, embracing the campaign’s request to simply – just ride.

Female Ride Day, the globally synchronized day for women, was designed to emphasize and spotlight the many numbers of women who ride motorcycles, celebrating not only their diversities, but similarities in their shared passion for motorcycling. It became a huge hit at its inception in 2007, instantly identified among women riders and has since tripled in involvement each year. It is now an inescapable campaign, celebrated from all corners of the planet. It now encompasses a range of international cultures and locations including Canada, United States, South Africa, Australia, Greece and the UK to name but a few, with Poland joining in this year.

WERA Motorcycle Races Launch 2009 VIR Spectator Season

Danville, VA (February 6, 2009) – WERA motorcycles usher in VIRginia International Raceway’s spectator race season for 2009 with their March 21-22 race schedule.

“We’re looking at a really great 2009 season at VIR,” said track general manager Josh Lief. “Kicking off the season with WERA’s great motorcycle racing is a fine start for the year. We invite all our fans to come out and help us welcome the new race season.”
