Motorcycle group announces suit to stop roadblocks

A California-based motorcycle rights organization announced Saturday that it plans to take legal action to prevent checkpoints such as the one operated by state police this weekend on Route 12 in Oneida and Lewis counties that singled out motorcyclists.
The New York State Police announced Saturday they were going to be stopping motorcyclists bound for this weekend’s Americade motorcycle rally in Lake George. The object of the road block is to check for safety violations, according to a state police press release.
NY State Police Issue 48 Tickets at MC Checkpoint

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — State police stopped and inspected 123 bikers heading up the Adirondack Northway, issuing 48 tickets at a safety checkpoint Friday.
Heading into the weekend leading to the Americade motorcycle rally at Lake George, the checkpoint for northbound riders lasted a few hours at the I-87 rest area in Queensbury.
Police said they issued 15 tickets for unapproved helmets, 9 for illegal exhaust pipes, 4 for unlicensed operators and 20 for other violations.

Luc Bourdon Killed in Motorcycle Crash

SHIPPAGAN, New Brunswick (AP) — Luc Bourdon, a promising rookie defenseman with the Vancouver Canucks, was killed Thursday when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer in a crash near his hometown. He was 21.
His death was confirmed by sister Eve Bourdon and stepmother Maryse Godin. Both declined further comment when reached at the family’s home in Shippagan.
