HB1870 (allows two to be operated abreast in single lane) made it out of the Transportation Committee this morning 11 to 9. Now is the time to start writing our delegates and asking that they support this bill when it comes up for a vote on the House floor, probably early next week. Below is some information about the bill, and some talking points you may want to use in your correspondence:

HB1808 (Patron – Delegate Bill Janis) – Allows motorcyclists to ride two abreast in a single traffic lane. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?091+sum+HB1870

Talking Points:
- Riding two abreast is allowed in 48 states
- Two motorcycles abreast in a traffic lane aids in making the motorcycles more visible to other traffic
- Allows better comunication between riders
- There has never been a study, or statistics kept to show this is a dangerous practice
- This would not require this type of riding, it would simply allow it, and motorcyclists would be able to decide for themselves if, when, and with whom they would engage in this practice.

Please email as many Delegates as possible, but at the very least, email YOUR Delegate.

Don’t know who your Delegate is? Find him/her here http://conview.state.va.us/whosmy.nsf/main?openform Don’t know the contact info for your Delegate? Find your Delegate on the list and click the name here http://leg1.state.va.us/071/mbr/MBR.HTM

Please write as soon as possible, and spread the word!
