Friends take trip of a lifetime

Pete Bishop and Ricky Glenn rode their Harley Davidson motorcycles across this great country from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean this summer calling it the trip of a lifetime. They left Virginia Beach on Saturday, June 7 and reached California on June 20. Their wives, Cyndie Bishop and Terri Glenn, joined them in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for several days.

Bishop and Glenn have been friends for many years and ride on country roads in the area. One Sunday afternoon Glenn brought up the idea of riding from coast to coast and at first Bishop thought he was kidding, he wasn’t. And from that point on the dream started to take shape as the two started thinking about the route they would take across this great country and when to make the trip.

WINCHESTER COUPLE WINS A HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE

THEY TAKE TOP PRIZE IN VIRGINIA LOTTERY’S “LIVE TO RIDE” SECOND-CHANCE DRAWING

Some people plan to sit back and relax in their retirement. Not Connie and “Fuzzy” MacMillan of Winchester. They just won a 2008 Harley-Davidson® 105th Anniversary Fat Boy® Motorcycle. Connie’s ticket won the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s “Live to Ride” Sweepstakes. On August 19, 2008, Ms. MacMillan’s ticket was drawn from 125,818 entries, each a non-winning Harley-Davidson® Scratcher ticket.

“When the man from the Lottery called, I was a wreck,” she said. “We love to play the Harley-Davidson Scratcher.”

Years ago, Mr. MacMillan had a different model Harley-Davidson®, but got rid of it. On August 28, the MacMillans received the keys to their new set of wheels from Virginia Lottery Shenandoah Valley Customer Service Center Manager Lissa Keagy. The presentation took place at Winchester Harley-Davidson® in Winchester.

Both of the MacMillans are retired factory workers.

The Harley-Davidson® game showcases one of the great icons of the American road: the Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. The Lottery is offering a total of 10 motorcycles: eight for Scratcher winners and another two for winners of second-chance drawings. Both Harley-Davidson® second-chance drawings have been held. Tickets will remain on sale because, as of August 28, five motorcycle prizes and two $75,000 prizes have not been claimed from this game. Another 922 tickets were drawn to win prize packs featuring great Harley-Davidson® merchandise.

Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. HD Recalls 50,000 2008 Motorcycles

Harley-Davidson Recalled Almost 50-Thousand 2008 Motorcycles August 20, 2008 Harley-Davidson Motor Company is recalling 47,500 2008 FLHP, FLHPE, FLHR, FLHRC, FLHRSE4, FLHT, FLHTC, FLHTCU, FLHTCUSE3, FLHTP, FLHX, and FLTR model motorcycles. These recalled Harleys may experience a loss of fuel pressure due to a cracking of the fuel filter shell. A loss in fuel pressure could lead to stalls and failure starting. Stalling in traffic can result in crash and injury for the rider.

Harley-Davidson dealers will replace the fuel filter shell for free beginning on or before August 4th. To locate a Harley dealership near you for a replacement fuel filter shell, Harley owners should call 414-353-4056.

VINTON MAN SCRATCHES TO WIN A HARLEY-DAVIDSON® MOTORCYCLE

Pryor Harvey of Vinton was on his way to work when he decided to stop and buy a bottle of water. When he pulled in to Main Street Getty Mart at 1115 Main Street in Roanoke, he also played the Virginia Lottery’s Harley-Davidson® Scratcher game. That decision won him a 2008 Harley-Davidson® 105th Anniversary Fat Boy® Motorcycle.

“I went to my truck and scratched the ticket,” Mr. Harvey told Lottery officials. “I’ve always wanted a Harley. I couldn’t believe I’d won.”

On August 13, Mr. Harvey received the keys to his new set of wheels from Virginia Lottery Roanoke Valley Customer Service Manager Arthur Grubb. The presentation took place at Harley-Davidson® of Lynchburg.

Mr. Harvey, who works as a superintendent for a general contracting company, said he rode motorcycles a long time ago. Now he can again!

Local man’s lottery scratch card wins him a Harley

A Williamsburg man will get some new wheels today because of a lucky scratch.

Gerald Stone, a 53-year-old dry cleaner, received his new Harley-Davidson — a 105th anniversary Fat Boy model — from Virginia Lottery officials today after winning one of 10 bikes being given away in a current scratch game. Stone got his new motorcycle at Hampton Roads Harley-Davidson in Yorktown.

Biker road trip like ‘living the movie’

SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, Virginia (CNN) — We were parked at a peaceful, shady overlook beside Virginia’s Skyline Drive, admiring the green mountains and the river far below, when Keith realized he needed a new rear tire, and he needed it now. A bald tire is a serious problem when you’re traveling by motorcycle: We don’t carry spare tires, for obvious reasons, and a blowout on two wheels could be life-threatening.

Keith decided he could make it 100 miles to the Harley-Davidson dealership in Richmond, Virginia, as long as we kept it slow, so our seven bikes headed that way.

It’s been said that a great trip in a car is like watching a first-rate movie — but a great trip on a motorcycle is like living the movie.
