The cold and snow has made many of us put our scooters up for the winter. But, as the riding season winds down, the time to fight for our freedom is winding up. The VCOM lobby day is coming up fast. South Fork Chapter intends to be well represented. We will have meetings with our delegate, Mr. Athey and our senator, Mr. Obenshain. This event is very important for all to attend. I encourage each of you to attend and meet with your representatives.
Miss Penny and I attended the NCOM conference in Philadelphia in November. The event was well attended and they provided tons of information. We intend to attend the next conference in Oklahoma in the spring.
November also brought our state elections. We are very pleased that Mr. Mark Obenshain won the state senate seat for the 26th district. We’ve met with Mr. Obenshshain and he is very much behind us. Mr. Clay Athey was re-elected to the House of Delegates for the 6th district. Mr. Athey is also behind our cause.
We held our December meeting at our house in Front Royal. It was great to have so many friends and freedom fighters in our home. After the meeting we had a pot luck dinner. The food was fantastic and a good time had by all.
We collected food and donations for the Battered Woman’s Shelter and Toys for Tots. I would like to thank Tonya, Wendy, and John for their hard work and dedication to this project.
As a result of our elections I would like to welcome the new officers to the chapter. I was re-elected as the coordinator. Louise Field was elected as the assistant coordinator. Tex Sylvester was elected as treasurer. Miss Penny was re-elected as secretary. Steve Field was re-elected as Ride Captain. Bob Huff was elected as event coordinator. We have a great team of officers and I’m sure each will perform their duties to the best of their ability. Welcome again new officers!
We’ve been working with VCOM to establish an AIM program and membership drive. Louise is managing the program and will be our AIM representative.
As stated before, the riding season has slowed down and we’re not having many events. Now is the time to get behind our helmet bill and contact our legislators. The session starts soon and your voice needs to be heard now. This is what it’s all about. The dedicated members of the South Fork Chapter will stand and fight for their rights and civil liberties as will the members of ABATE! As Chester Bowles stated, “Government is big and too important to be left to the politicians.”
