ABATE of VA: ABATE OF VIRGINIA GOES TO WASHINGTON – REPORT
Posted by herseyc on Monday, May 22, 2006 @ 13:26:50 EDT (1049 reads)
On May 1, 2006 a group of folks from ABATE of VA visited Washington DC to lobby our representative on motorcycle related issues happening at the federal level. Here is Sharon's report: ROAMING THE HALLS OF CONGRESS…(and the streets of DC!)
Our group, Steve Stacy, Shag Meade, Castro Phillips, Wes Clevinger, Andy Keaton and me, started out with a meeting at the MRF office with Jeff Hennie, MRF’s Legislative Coordinator. Jeff had unfortunately broken his foot and did not accompany us to the capitol buildings, but he did provide us with packages of information to give to each of Virginia’s Congressmen and Senators. Jeff reviewed the current issues that we would cover in each of our meetings and we felt prepared to go and ask for support for the items on our agenda.

ABATE of VA: ABATE of VA in the News - Area bikers look for an ace
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 @ 07:15:30 EDT (2399 reads)
Sharon Keaton hoped for a full house at Yamaha’s bike shop on Lovers Lane Saturday afternoon - or at least a royal flush.Keaton, treasurer for American Bikers Advocating Training and Education’s Culpeper chapter, handed playing cards to participating motorcyclists at the start of the group’s summer poker run.“We have about 40 riders going today,” Keaton said after the last driver drew a card and sped off. “That’s about average. We’ve had more, but we’ve had less, too.”

ABATE of VA: Set back with VA HB374 helmet bill
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 @ 07:14:05 EST (2238 reads)
We did not make it out of the House of Delegates - the vote was 48 to 51.
This is really hard. We made it out of a HOSTILE Transportation Committee.
We fought and tried so hard. So many people put so much into it. Y'ALL are
included in that group. Thanks to each and every single one of you.

ABATE of VA: Request for help on VA HB374
Posted by herseyc on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 @ 21:46:45 EST (1630 reads)
I'm going to paste some email address below and I'm asking if you'll drop these people a line or two and ask them to vote YES for our helmet reform bill, HB374. Jim Cannon of VCOM looked into his crystal ball and told me he's thinking our bill will be voted on THIS FRIDAY. I know it's not much time - any help you can give us here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 @ 20:07:13 EST (1615 reads)
The vote was 10 Yeas to 9 Nays to pass the out of committee. (I don't have the listing of who voted yes/no, it's not posted to the VA Legislative Information System yet.) A big THANX to all who attending the committee meeting today. What a feeling those legislators who voted 'no' must have had when the bill passed and all of those bikers in attendance stood up whooping and hollering.....!!!!!
