Runs and Rides: Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day is Wednesday, July 18, 2007
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 @ 06:40:05 EDT (870 reads)
This year's sixteenth annual motorcycle and scooter commuting demonstration will increase the number of riders on the road, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. "Riding to work on this day shows the positive value of motorcycles and scooters for transportation. For many people, riding is an economical, efficient and socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits," states Andy Goldfine, the event organizer. Motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts and rider organizations worldwide encourage their members to ride to work on this day.

Fundraiser for the Portsmouth Humane Society
The Portsmouth Humane Society and Bayside Harley-Davidson are excited to
present the first… of what we hope will be an annual event, “HOGS for
DOGS” a fundraiser for the Portsmouth animal shelter.
The Portsmouth Humane Society is a non-profit shelter surviving on public
donations with only a small stipend from The City of Portsmouth. Last year
alone they received nearly 3000 stray, unwanted, injured and abandoned
animals; they are loved, rehabilitated, nurtured and given a second chance
at finding loving homes.

Bikers' Rights: MRF LEADERS REPORT - MAC Reconvenes
Posted by herseyc on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 @ 07:04:12 EDT (770 reads)
MOTORCYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECONVENES
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is pleased to announce that the
Federal
Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Motorcycle Advisory Committee (MAC) held
its second
meeting in Washington DC recently. As outlined in the legislation that
the MRF was
instrumental in developing and passing through Congress, the MAC's purpose
is to
provide advice to the Secretary of Transportation, through the FHWA, on all
infrastructure issues and how they affect motorcycles. The Council is
comprised of
10 individuals representing all different facets of the motorcycling
community
including the MRF, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), The National
Association of State Motorcycle Safety Administrators (SMSA), State
Department of
Transportation (DOT) officials and "road furniture" safety engineers. "Road
furniture" refers to anything on the road other than the actual road – so
signage,
guard rails, bridges, light posts, striping, lane markers, etc. would be
considered
"road furniture." The best part is that ALL of the MAC members must be
riders. MAC
covered a lot of ground over the two-day meeting, and all of the meeting
minutes,
recommendations and action items will be available soon on the MAC website at
http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/mac/index.htm

Bikers' Rights: Federal Legislation to End Discrimination of Bikers Introduced
Posted by herseyc on Friday, April 20, 2007 @ 06:40:37 EDT (1059 reads)
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that legislation to close the
loophole that currently exists in our nation?s health insurance
industry has been introduced in the US Senate (S 616) and House (HR
1076).
Under current law, group market insurance customers - that?s everyone
who has insurance from a job in the private sector, military or
government - can be denied benefits for a particular injury just
because it came from an motorcycle accident.

Product Reviews: A Great Pair of Spring Gloves from Fox Creek Leather
Posted by herseyc on Wednesday, April 04, 2007 @ 06:00:00 EDT (1355 reads)
A VERY comfortable and functional pair of riding gloves.
Spring is finally here and if you are looking for a nice pair of Spring riding gloves check out the Outseam Deerskin Gloves from Fox Creek Leather. These gloves are manufactured from high quality Deerskin Leather and are made in the USA.
The seams of these gloves are sewn on the outside making the Outseam Glove one of Fox Creek's most comfortable gloves.
The gloves are unlined and are not designed for cold weather riding but if you pick up a pair of liners from your local sporting goods store they will help keep your hands warm even if the temps fall a bit. I try to ride to work most days and I am on the road well before the sun comes up, even with the still somewhat cool morning temps these gloves are just fine even without inserts. If you are looking for a glove that is a lined and designed for a bit cooler temps make sure you check out he Elkskin Riding Gloves, these are very comfortable and are lined.
I own several pairs of Fox Creek Leather Gloves and they are all top quality. If you are looking for a good glove suited for Spring time riding get yourself a pair of these Outseam Deerskin Gloves.
