Posted by herseyc on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 @ 09:33:08 EDT (1979 reads)
This past weekend Sandy and I headed down to Salisbury, NC for the Horse’s Smoke Out. I have been wanting to get down there for this event for the past few years but it just didn’t work out. This year things kind of fell into place and we were able to plan to go. I had heard a lot about the Smoke Out and was looking forward to an old school biker party and motorcycle show, and that is what we got.

Road Trips: What Happened to the Largest Free Rally in Galveston
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 @ 10:10:06 EDT (1318 reads)
Anonymous writes " Galveston Texas has advertised itself as the largest and only free rally. The first year one could park in the allies and vacant lots for free. Parking on the Strand and driving your motorcycle down the Strand was also free. The first rally hosted over 150,000 fellow bikers.
The second year, Galveston decided to charge for parking in the allies and lots as well as anywhere along the Strand one could park a bike.
This year Galveston has decided to charge for riding your bike down the street on the strand as well as the above charges for parking. I do believe they may even charge for parking on the Strand itself.
I guess this year the free rally is going to cost one $30 for parking over 3days, $5 for being able to ride your bike on the Strand, I think this may be per day or maybe for the whole time, and the escalated hotel prices, has turned the "Free Rally" into one more costly than most pay rallies. How greedy can Galveston get, I guess time will tell.
Thank you , Pete"

Road Trips: Rolling Thunder XVIII
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 @ 08:43:26 EDT (1428 reads)
For the last 8 years or so I have made it a point to attend the annually Rolling Thunder Demonstration held the Sunday before Memorial Day in Washington DC. This year was no different, on Sunday morning before the sun came up, Sandy and I headed North towards DC to offer our respect to those that have given all to defend this country and to demand accountability for those that never returned. This will probably be the last year that we make the trip.

Anonymous writes "Are you a fan of all terrain vehicles? Looking for the best ATV trail in Virginia? Check out The Rocky Run Trail in Virginia’s Dry River Ranger District. The 10 mile long trail provides fun for the novice as well as the experienced rider. There is everything from wide trails to more tricky and twisting trails. Whatever your skill level, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Camping is permitted in most areas along the trail, and you can also find good hunting during the right time of year. Remember to bring your helmet and make sure that those persons 16 years old or younger are accompanied by an adult. There are plenty of websites that contain all the area’s posted rules - familiarize yourself with them before you arrive. Don’t forget to bring your emergency equipment and plenty of food and water. Check the weather forecasts before you go so that you can dress accordingly. You’ll love riding your ATV in this unforgettable area. Road Trips: Great bike ride destination, East Side Raw Bar &Grill
Posted by herseyc on Monday, July 26, 2004 @ 06:55:21 EDT (1769 reads)
Anonymous writes "Add this to your list of “must do’s” this summer: The sign says “East Side Raw Bar and Grill”, just minutes from downtown Winchester, VA., east on route 50, and located on the left hand side of the road, or the right hand side, if you’re coming from DC west on 50. You will discover one of the absolute best seafood restaurants in a 500 mile radius, no kidding; serving everything from fresh lobster tail to clams and oysters, Alaskan king crab and soft-shell blues from the Chesapeake. You can munch on “old bay” steamed shrimp from the steamer right behind the bar, or eat great rib-eye steaks and “the catch of the day” rockfish, tuna, swordfish or mahi-mahi. You can also get Pasta and delectable salads. The East Side is complete with a very bright and friendly bar; they serve all the best and latest mixed drinks, local wines and beers, as well as, their superb steamed signature seafood menu at the bar. Most weekends you can relax with food, drink and great music from local groups, like the “Blue Channel Cats” from WV, and others, who play an excellent variety of music that will keep you wanting to stay.
My wife and I discover the place soon after they opened earlier this year and have been very impressed. We have also just learned that the owners, Jim and Gloria Dill, have completed and will be opening their new Tiki bar and patio around the 3rd of August. The location has ample parking and is a great place for a lunch or dinner date with friends, come on your bike, in the 32’ coupe, the 57’ Chevy, or the 68’ AC Shelby 427, you will not be disappointed.
Steven Michaels/WINCHESTER, Virginia, 23 July 2004."
