The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has learned that Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J) is planning to offer an amendment to the MRF's Motorcycle Safety Language contained in the highway bill HR 3. The MRF has received an advanced copy of Sen. Lautenberg’s proposed amendment. It would penalize, or prohibit, any state without a mandatory helmet law from participation in the grant process for monies designated for motorcycle training and awareness. This amendment could be offered as soon as tomorrow, May 9th.
Virginia Riders!!! - Please take action immediately and call John Warner (R) 202-224-2023 and George Allen (R) 202-224-4024 right away and tell them you are opposed to the ammendment to the highway bill (HR 3) that Lautenberg is proposing that would tie a state helmet law to funding for motorcycle safety training. Please read the MRF alert below and take 2 minutes to call our Virginia Senators.

Bikers' Rights: VFR Legislative Update
Posted by herseyc on Monday, April 25, 2005 @ 08:18:12 EDT (945 reads)
The 2005 Legislative Session was a hotbed of activity. Things moved slowly with the helmet bill with respect to getting it out of committee, but that meant many trips to Richmond and much writing and phone calling in between. The bill failed to make it out of the House and that only means one thing – we have a LOT of work to do this year.

Bikers' Rights: Latest on HB1979
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, February 08, 2005 @ 07:12:49 EST (1127 reads)
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you HB1979 had it's Second and Third Reading today and it failed to pass out of the House 46 - 51. I talked with Jim Cannon this afternoon and as expected he is very dissappointed. Jim is an excellent lobbyist at our Capitol, but he is only one person. In the eleventh hour our opponents gathered strength and easily outnumbered his efforts in the capitol hallways.
