Bikers' Rights: Enuff is Enuff
Posted by herseyc on Friday, October 27, 2006 @ 06:55:02 EDT (1168 reads)
Animal - Sons of Liberty Riders
Not many people outside my circle know that I commute 400
miles for work, living in Arizona and working in San Diego. I
make the run once or twice a month, half of it is California
(helmet mandate) and half is Arizona (no mandate for adults). I
would take the beanie off at the AZ line and enjoy the rest of the
ride home.
This trip home was for my daughters dive competition. Yes, she
qualified for the State competition. It was also her 16th birthday, as
well as her first homecoming dance with her boyfriend. I also
spent the weekend playing with my 10 month old grandson, while
discussing politics and liberty with my son and his girlfriend. My
only reason for pointing out all the kid interaction is because on
the ride thru Arizona I made a major decision based on my kids
and their futures. I will lay that all out in this writing.

Bikers' Rights: Senator Lautenburg coming after our Governor's!!!
Posted by herseyc on Thursday, September 14, 2006 @ 08:54:23 EDT (901 reads)
Just when you thought it was safe to ride your bike again...
Our old enemy, Senator Frank Lautenburg of New Jersey is coming after us
again...through our Governors!!!! It's not enough that we killed his
safety-nazi agenda during the amendment process in TEA-LU. He doesn't
give a shit about what we or anyone else wants. He's a one man
jack-booted thug that won't stop until we're all wearing helmets and
paying homage to him.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released their long awaited Letter of Guidance (LOG) for aftermarket motorcycle engine emissions certification. This LOG will allow aftermarket motorcycle engine manufacturers to sell EPA compliant engine packages to individuals and small volume builders and manufacturers.
"I would like to thank the SMROs who assisted the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), American Iron Magazine, and key members of the Motorcycle Industry Council, V-Twin Aftermarket Committee: Brett Smith from S&S Cycle and Ted Sands from Performance Machine", said Dave Dwyer, MRF Board of Directors. "With their commitment and assistance this LOG retained the exemptions currently in place and increased the choices available to builders of custom V-Twin motorcycles."

Bikers' Rights: Southern Cross Conference 2006
Posted by herseyc on Friday, June 23, 2006 @ 07:04:19 EDT (771 reads)
This year's Southern Cross Conference will be held October 6,7,8 in Texas. That's quite a ways for us, and if you are short on vacation (as I always am), consider checking out the cost of flying. You will not regret attending this, I guarentee! Here's the initial info:
The 2006 Southern Cross Conference will be held in a rustic Old Texas Town called Old Sawmill Town, USA. The town was recently damaged by Rita but I believe is suitable for our purposes. We have made arrangements for free camping and will only have to pay for the lights. To check out the town go to motorcyclecampground.com
It consists of 28 acres with a small lake for swimming if you choose to do so.

Bikers' Rights: BIKERNET.COM INDEPENDENT MOTORCYCLE NOISE STUDY
Posted by herseyc on Thursday, May 18, 2006 @ 08:22:13 EDT (923 reads)
In a world of increased levels of constant noise and heightened efforts to curb excessive decibel levels motorcycles take a hit. Bikernet.com, the world's largest web site in the custom motorcycle industry, sought to study motorcycle noise against constant environmental disturbances and put the motorcycle exhaust sound into proper perspective.
Motorcycles are unique in that they are the least pervasive, of all vehicles jammed onto our roads, today. They have the least protection and the best mpg ratings of all vehicles. We discovered that motorcycles lack bumpers, airbags, double-wall doors or steel ceilings, yet take up 1/3 of the space of common sedans, and are more agile than trucks or compacts in avoiding dangerous situations. Motorcycles have but two defensive measures to enhance their agility, visual and auditory awareness. For decades motorists have used the excuse that they are unable to see a narrow motorcycle, so its okay to hit one. State legislators are currently dealing with that fallacy. Yet, still between 70 and 85 percent of all motorcycle accidents are caused by motorists. Plus the use of cell phones, GPS screens, DVDs, CD players and other major distractions are increasing the need for motorcycle awareness. Recent statistics indicate that over 60 percent of all motor vehicle accidents happened while the driver is distracted by cell phones, eating or other interruptions.

Bikers' Rights: You Can't Put Your Rights on Layaway at Wal-Mart
Posted by herseyc on Friday, March 17, 2006 @ 06:00:00 EST (739 reads)
by splatt - www.bikernation.us
Regardless of how you feel about the Wal-Mart® Corporation, you've got to respect the fact that they've created a niche market and made it profitable. In a capitalist society, all of us are free to look around, determine a need, provide goods or services for that specific need, and if we're lucky maybe even pull down a modest profit as long as folks are willing to pay the asking price. If you price an item too high, like gasoline, people will adjust their budgets accordingly and buy less gasoline. When the price is good, and people have the money to spend, people will always buy more. It's basic hunter-gatherer theology; If I can get 3 wildebeests for the price of 1, I'm gonna buy all three wildebeests and use that money I save to buy a new trailer to haul all that extra fur back to my cave. I may not eat all the meat, and I may never use that trailer ever again, but who cares? It was all "free."
