Three days after Lynette Chism died in a motorcycle crash, her friends and fellow bikers follow her fatal route. BY JENNIFER LATSON - March 14, 2007
NEWPORT NEWS -- It was a good day to ride but a solemn occasion when two dozen men and women pulled into the Crab Shack parking lot on motorcycles Tuesday afternoon.
They were coworkers and riding buddies of Lynette Chism, and they rode Tuesday in her honor. Chism, 42, of Newport News, died Saturday in a biking accident in Hampton when her motorcycle hit a curb and threw her into a concrete light pole.

People and Places: Remember Our Troops
Posted by herseyc on Thursday, December 21, 2006 @ 07:15:35 EST (854 reads)
Please take a minute this holiday season to remember our troops that are serving their country and are not able to home with their families this season.
I got this email the other day from a soldier in Iraq. He is looking to hear from riders at home while he is stationed in Iraq. If you want to drop him a note send us a note and we will send you his email address. Or you can leave a comment on this article since him and his friends do visit the site.
I am absolutely amazed of the level of content on this site. I miss having a ride. I will get one again. This is the best site and I have recommended it to many friends. I am in Iraq right now. Drop me an email or two. Have some friends write back as well. I love to here and talk about rides, scooters, rallies and look at pics of things I've missed while deployed. Thanks and great job on the site. Bless America, Ride Free... SGT Eric "SKETCH" Hanley
To Sketch and all the rest of his buddies - Thank you and we are thinking about you. Be safe over there and we hope you can come home soon.

People and Places: Southern Cross Conference 2006

Bernie and I loaded up the truck and headed out early Wednesday morning - Texas bound. We stayed the night in Alabama, and arrived in Texas Thursday afternoon. The Old Saw Mill Town was a sight for sore eyes, and we were greeted by Sputnik and Dee, who were sitting on the Saloon porch as we drove up. We looked around a bit and I must say the Old Saw Mill Town is very impressive. The buildings are really neat and very functional. Jim Cannon stayed on a bunk in a cell of the old jail - Kinky Kathy ended up staying one night in the other cell. The rest of us ended up scattered here and there in tents - with a couple staying in motels. We ate meals, had gatherings and held meetings in the Road Kill Cafe. I took pictures that I'll post a little later. The town was damaged by a storm, but they are putting it back together and I can't wait to see it next year when it's complete.

People and Places: Discovering the truth about the biking lifestyle

by Sara Sturges Like so many cultural subgroups within our society, many people misunderstand
the essence of the biker lifestyle.
I personally don't have what it takes to be a biker. I think tattoos are
repulsive, the only leather I have is on my handbags, and I'm too small to reach
the handlebars. But, I can appreciate a style and culture different from my
own.

People and Places: Willie G. Davidson Electra-fies Crowd at Bayside HD's Grand Opening
Posted by herseyc on Monday, April 10, 2006 @ 10:19:21 EDT (1038 reads)
Harley-Davidson enthusiasts couldn't ask for a better finale to the 3 day non-stop grand opening celebration at the dazzling new Bayside Harley-Davidson than an appearance by the legendary Willie G. Davidson, Harley-Davidson design guru and grandson of the original founder. Thousands of riders and non-riders alike came out to see the new state-of-the-art dealership located off Interstate 264 in Portsmouth, Virginia to enjoy the weekend of food, free music and entertainment, contests, games and fireworks. But it was Willie G. and his wife Nancy, escorted through the dealership by owners Maurice and Cynthia Slaughter, General Manager Kevin Johnson and facility designer Loredana Henderson, who electrified the waiting crowd on Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of fans stood in line to shake hands, to take pictures and to ask Willie G. and Nancy to autograph their Harley-Davidson shirts, jackets, books, bike parts and helmets.

People and Places: Patriot Guard Riders save the day!!!!
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 @ 07:47:39 EST (1077 reads)
DODGE CITY, Kansas (CNN) -- This past Saturday morning I found myself in a
five-car caravan cutting across the Kansas plains with about 30 religious
protesters. In the back of a truck, there were signs that read "Thank God
for IED's" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers."
I was with the Phelps family. They've launched a disturbing campaign to
tarnish the funerals of fallen soldiers.
This is a painful drama playing out at dozens of military funerals across
the country. The group is led by Fred Phelps.

MikeD writes "I caught it up with the new entrepreneur’s (Terry and Sherry Braley) this January at a Biker Rally. After talking to some fellow riders they were telling me about Terry and Sherry’s new website (Road Rash Apparel) and how low there prices were on there Leather Apparel. So after digging through the crowd I finally meat up with them. I introduced myself and we sat down and must have talked for over 2 hours about their new business."

People and Places: Whiskey Choppers Bike Night
Posted by herseyc on Wednesday, November 09, 2005 @ 06:57:03 EST (2167 reads)
Last week one of the guys from Whiskey Choppers stopped by the VABiker.NET and posted a flyer for their first Bike Night to celebrate their new retail location in Norfolk. Even though we have the bike torn up right now for paint Sandy and I decided to take the truck and check things out.
Whiskey Choppers just had their grand openning at their Norfolk retail location a couple of weeks ago. It's a nice place, an old bank building, which they are planning to turn in to a reception hall/party place and a large building around back that house their retail store and showroom.

People and Places: Billy Lane's Blood, Sweat, and Gears Tour
Posted by herseyc on Thursday, November 03, 2005 @ 07:55:36 EST (2485 reads)
I had read about Billy Lane of Choppers, Inc. Blood, Sweat, and Gears tour in a couple of magazines over the past few months. It sounded like a pretty cool idea and while we were in Daytona for Biketoberfest Sandy and I got to catch a day of the tour and I have to say it was definitely cool.
Billy Lane came up with this concept of a mobile fabrication shop not just to put on shows to promote his shop or showcase his mechanical ability, but to give something back. The trailer contains basically everything your could possibly need to fabricate a custom motorcycle on a semi-trailer. Welders, grinders, cutters, tools, an english wheel, like I said this thing has everything you could possible need to build, fabricate, and assemble a bike. The Blood, Sweat, and Gears Tour started off in Daytona Bike Week back in March and this stop in Biketoberfest was the final for this years tour. The tour had stops in all the major motorcycle events around the country; Laconia, Laughlin, Sturgis, Myrtle Beach, etc...

People and Places: Crank and Chrome Cycles
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 @ 07:42:24 EDT (993 reads)
Sandy and I just got home from Biketoberfest. We had an awesome trip despite a few mechanical problems. The bike was running a little rough at low speeds. She seemed to be fine while running 75 on the Interstate but in town she was running really rough. I decided to take it to a local shop and have it looked out. This is how we ended up at Crank and Chrome Cycles on Ridgewood Avenue (US 1) in Holly Hill, FL.
