ABATE of Iowa was awarded the 2004 Safety Award at the Motorcycle Riders
Foundation's (MRF) annual Meeting of the Minds, where national leaders
of the motorcycling community gather for its premier political
leadership summit. The Safety Award was presented to ABATE for its
outstanding ongoing public safety program. Only one Safety Award is
presented each year.

ABATE News: ABATE the Most Powerful Lobbyists in South Carolina

According to John Monk of the State paper we are now the most powerful lobbyists in South Carolina. He informed me via telephone that we have defeated or deadlocked the seven most powerful professional lobbyists in the statehouse. That said there is still much room for improvement; we need more involvement from many areas of the state that have been under or not represented at the most recent lobby days. February 19, 2004 at 1:00 pm The hearing will be in the State Senate

While at the Capitol Monday Blackie, (Slutmen M/C) and I were looking at new House bills, and found one that we all should get behind. HB-4367 prohibits law-enforcement surveillance of individuals, or groups participating participating in constitutionally protected activities.
This is the first attempt I have seen in West Virginia to counter some of the police tactics brought on by the Patriot act. If you value Liberty you should let your Representative in the house know where you stand. ABATE News: CBA/ABATE of NC Legislative Update - February 2004

I was holding this update, until after the House Select Committee meeting on Jan 29th. The meeting was cancelled because of the ice storm. It has been rescheduled for Feb 12th, at 1:00 in room 415. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) has received the official response from ABATE of South Dakota regarding the Janklow sentence handed down late last week. The MRF applauds and continues to support ABATE of South Dakota for their knowledge of the legal process in South Dakota, their diligence in following this case, and their common sense approach in dealing with this tragedy.

ABATE News: Bikers Declare Victory And Lift Myrtle Beach Boycott

South Carolina, September 25, 2003 - Bikers lift the boycott of Myrtle Beach and Horry County after achieving political objectives. The boycott was implemented by ABATE of SC in the wake of the horrible accident that claimed the lives of two motorcyclists when a public official failed to yield right of way and was not charged.

from the resulting investigation and the following legal proceedings.
Accidents such as this one occur all too often and the resulting penalties

(Waltham, MA) The Boards of Directors of ABATE of MA, Inc., and the
Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) approved and signed an AGREEMENT
dated July 31, 2003, wherein ABATE of MA would cease operations effective
December 31, 2003, as a 'member based' organization, incorporating its
members into the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation joins its South Dakota partner, ABATE of South Dakota, in expressing grave concern over the recent accident involving U.S. Representative William Janklow that took the life of motorcyclist Randolph Scott, as well as the findings of the accident report the South Dakota State Highway Patrol has delivered to Moody County State's Attorney Bill Ellingson.

ABATE News: How Did PA Bikers Finally Gain Freedom of Choice?

As you probably have heard, Pennsylvania bikers will gain Freedom of Choice
on September 4, 2003. We have created a 156 page book on how we did it.
This book is full of correspondence, web pages, media articles and related
items beginning in December 2002 and ending July 9, 2003 - three days after
Governor Rendell signed our new helmet law.
