The vote was 10 Yeas to 9 Nays to pass the out of committee. (I don't have the listing of who voted yes/no, it's not posted to the VA Legislative Information System yet.) A big THANX to all who attending the committee meeting today. What a feeling those legislators who voted 'no' must have had when the bill passed and all of those bikers in attendance stood up whooping and hollering.....!!!!!
Bill Kincaid says HB374 should receive its first reading on the House floor tomorrow and may come up for floor vote as soon as Thursday - just don't know how it will play out.
For those not well versed in VA legislative lingo - 'first reading' means a bill is presented to the full House of Delegates for the first time and lets Delegates know a vote will be coming up on that bill. The 'second reading' means basically the same thing but the vote is closer to happening so be prepared. And the 'third reading' is when discussion/debate occurs amongst all in attendance and after debate the vote takes place.
DON'T THINK THIS MEANS YOU CAN RELAX!!! Again - you need to contact your delegate to request s/he vote in favor of the bill when the floor vote occurs. This isn't just those legislators on the Transportation Committee - this is ALL of the legislators. So contact everyone you know and get going on those e-mails and phone calls!!!
I will let you know as soon as I know what's happening with HB374.
