Our bill was heard in Transportation Sub Committee 3 this morning at 7AM. I
am pasting a note I sent to ABATE members that summarizes the results and
implications. We are at a critical point right now.
I just got off the phone with Jim Cannon. HB374 was heard in sub committee 3
this morning. They voted 5 to 3 to Pass By Indefinitely. In other words,
their recommendation to the full Transportation Committee next week will be
to kill our bill.
I know this doesn't sound good, BUT..... Jim Cannon assures me that this is
not a big surprise AND it doesn't necessarily mean anything - IF we continue
to write our delegates on the committee and ask for support and IF we can
get a good showing of support in the Transportation Committee meeting next
week. When they start speaking about our bill in Committee, they ask for the
supporters in the audience to stand up and be recognized. You can imagine
how much more of a statement we would make if we filled the room with people
in support, rather than only 3 or 4.
PLEASE try to make it to this meeting next week. Jim Cannon will try to pin
down the date this afternoon. It will likely be either the 10th or the 12th.
If it is at all possible, please plan to be there. And please continue to
write. I posted a sample letter last night - 3rd down on
http://www.vabiker.net/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=239#239.
I'll write another and post it today. If you write one of your own that can
be used as a sample, please let me or Hersey know and we will post it for
you.
Freedom Fighters - stay strong!!! We need each other on this one. It's a
tough battle, but it's one worth fighting. Our opponents DON'T expect or
want us to make it out of Transportation. Imagine the statement we'll make
when we do!
Ride safe. Ride Hard. Ride FREE!!!!!
