We’ve accomplished a lot in the past year, and we have so many things to tackle in 2004! It seems we never get a break, doesn’t it?
I received some MRF bumper stickers, and I think these two sum it up pretty well:
“Freedom is Always Unfinished Business”
and
“The key to Our Freedom is Total Vigilance!”
So I guess we’re in for a lifetime of hard work! They didn’t tell us this when we signed up, did they?! But wouldn’t you rather fight for what you know are your rights, then have someone else decide that for you?
We’re all busy. It takes time to read through pages and pages of emails and newspapers to keep track of what’s going on in this world and figuring out when and how to get involved. The good news is, there are things you can do that will make it easier for you. Joining ABATE of Virginia is an excellent way to be connected with what’s happening in Virginia concerning legislation and issues that effect you. Joining the MRF is your connection to what is happening in Washington, DC and to learn about national legislation that effects you. Don’t have time to actively be involved in these organizations? Your membership alone is extremely helpful – not only does it give us strength in numbers, your membership donations help fund the fight for freedom.
Since I took on the role of MRF Virginia State Representative a few months ago, I’ve come to learn exactly how important it is to support a National Organization that is dedicated to protecting our rights on a national level. States rights are of utmost importance, and I dedicate a fair amount of my time working to re-gain and maintain freedoms here in Virginia. But we must also be involved in our rights on a national level. As wonderful as the United States of America is, our representatives are mere mortals, and they have their own ideas about what is best for us. If these “ideas” become national legislation, we will be forced to live with them here in Virginia. We as Americans have a right and an obligation to insure our representatives know what WE want. We should write them, call them email them, visit them – do whatever it takes to let them know when we agree and when we disagree with what they are doing, and to let them know what WE want concerning proposed legislation and resolutions. As I said, if you simply can not do these things, joining the MRF is an excellent way to have your voice heard through an organization that is based in Washington, DC and that dedicates every single day to fighting for motorcyclists rights.
I want to mention that I have an MRF email list. Each time an MRF alert comes out or I learn something of interest, I forward the alert and include a brief description of what it concerns along with a request to either just read it, or write representatives. When I ask that letters are written, I typically forward a sample letter that can be used by those who don’t necessarily have the time and/or desire to write their own. Right now, the email list mainly consists of ABATE Chapter Coordinators. If you would like to be added, just drop me an email at usadams@adelphia.net.
Want to join our fight for freedom on a national level? Join the MRF on-line at http://www.mrf.org/join.php or contact me by email or phone. And I am always available to answer your questions or provide information. Just give me a holler!
