Bikers' Rights: MRF LEADERS REPORT - MAC Reconvenes
Posted by herseyc on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 @ 07:04:12 EDT (770 reads)
MOTORCYCLE ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECONVENES
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is pleased to announce that the
Federal
Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Motorcycle Advisory Committee (MAC) held
its second
meeting in Washington DC recently. As outlined in the legislation that
the MRF was
instrumental in developing and passing through Congress, the MAC's purpose
is to
provide advice to the Secretary of Transportation, through the FHWA, on all
infrastructure issues and how they affect motorcycles. The Council is
comprised of
10 individuals representing all different facets of the motorcycling
community
including the MRF, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), The National
Association of State Motorcycle Safety Administrators (SMSA), State
Department of
Transportation (DOT) officials and "road furniture" safety engineers. "Road
furniture" refers to anything on the road other than the actual road – so
signage,
guard rails, bridges, light posts, striping, lane markers, etc. would be
considered
"road furniture." The best part is that ALL of the MAC members must be
riders. MAC
covered a lot of ground over the two-day meeting, and all of the meeting
minutes,
recommendations and action items will be available soon on the MAC website at
http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/mac/index.htm

Bikers' Rights: Federal Legislation to End Discrimination of Bikers Introduced

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation reports that legislation to close the loophole that currently exists in our nation's health insurance industry has been introduced in the US Senate (S 616) and House (HR 1076).
Under current law, group market insurance customers - that's everyone who has insurance from a job in the private sector, military or government can be denied benefits for a particular injury just because it came from a motorcycle accident.
Congress passed the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in 1996 to ensure proper access to health insurance for all American workers. Once the bureaucrats at the US Department of Health and Human Services issued their final ruling on the law they managed to allow a loophole that can be used to discriminate against motorcyclist when the need health insurance the most, after an accident.

Bikers' Rights: November 7 - Election Day 2006 - Please VOTE!
Posted by herseyc on Monday, November 06, 2006 @ 06:43:01 EST (1063 reads)
From Miss Penny and the Virginia Freedom Riders The weeks and months before elections tend to be the ugliest. With all the mud slinging and negative campaigning, it's hard to weed out where anyone stands on any issue. It's even more difficult when the media outlets we tend to depend on for information publically support one candidate over another. We can not expect fair coverage from media that has openly expressed preference of one over another.
I believe bikers are some of the most informed and politically educated people in the nation. It's because of this fact that YOUR vote is so important. You have studied the issues and will cast an informed vote. I know I don't need to remind YOU to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 7, but I'd like to ask that you remind others. Get the word out! This is a big election year and the perfect opportunity to make certain our voices are heard through the ballot we cast!
Voting is not only a right of every American - but a responsibility. Spread the word and let's make certain that Virginia is represented by civil servants that we feel will represent us well.
-------------
Yours in Liberty,
Penny
Virginia Freedom Riders - Legislative Officer

Bikers' Rights: Enuff is Enuff

Animal - Sons of Liberty Riders
Not many people outside my circle know that I commute 400
miles for work, living in Arizona and working in San Diego. I
make the run once or twice a month, half of it is California
(helmet mandate) and half is Arizona (no mandate for adults). I
would take the beanie off at the AZ line and enjoy the rest of the
ride home.
This trip home was for my daughters dive competition. Yes, she
qualified for the State competition. It was also her 16th birthday, as
well as her first homecoming dance with her boyfriend. I also
spent the weekend playing with my 10 month old grandson, while
discussing politics and liberty with my son and his girlfriend. My
only reason for pointing out all the kid interaction is because on
the ride thru Arizona I made a major decision based on my kids
and their futures. I will lay that all out in this writing.

Bernie and I loaded up the truck and headed out early Wednesday morning - Texas bound. We stayed the night in Alabama, and arrived in Texas Thursday afternoon. The Old Saw Mill Town was a sight for sore eyes, and we were greeted by Sputnik and Dee, who were sitting on the Saloon porch as we drove up. We looked around a bit and I must say the Old Saw Mill Town is very impressive. The buildings are really neat and very functional. Jim Cannon stayed on a bunk in a cell of the old jail - Kinky Kathy ended up staying one night in the other cell. The rest of us ended up scattered here and there in tents - with a couple staying in motels. We ate meals, had gatherings and held meetings in the Road Kill Cafe. I took pictures that I'll post a little later. The town was damaged by a storm, but they are putting it back together and I can't wait to see it next year when it's complete.

Bikers' Rights: Senator Lautenburg coming after our Governor's!!!

Just when you thought it was safe to ride your bike again...
Our old enemy, Senator Frank Lautenburg of New Jersey is coming after us
again...through our Governors!!!! It's not enough that we killed his
safety-nazi agenda during the amendment process in TEA-LU. He doesn't
give a shit about what we or anyone else wants. He's a one man
jack-booted thug that won't stop until we're all wearing helmets and
paying homage to him.

News and Info: With Road Deaths Rising, Panel Reviews Motorcycle Practices
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 @ 09:44:55 EDT (957 reads)
Headed for Trouble By Douglas B. Feaver Special to The Washington Post Tuesday, September 12, 2006 The National Transportation Safety Board opens a two-day forum today on what has become the fastest-growing source of U.S. transportation fatalities -- the motorcycle crash.
The forum comes after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that 43,443 people died on U.S. streets and highways last year, more than in any of the previous 14 years. This despite the facts that fatalities declined for people in automobiles, that alcohol-related deaths were the lowest since 1999 and that fewer 16-to-20-year-olds were killed than in the previous year.

ABATE News: ABATE of Maryland State Director - Marty Schultz - Motorcycle Fatality
Posted by herseyc on Tuesday, September 05, 2006 @ 06:46:09 EDT (968 reads)
ABATE of Maryland Press Release
Marty Schultz who was the State Director of a motorcycle rights organization
known as ABATE of Maryland, Inc., was killed by a car driver who violated
his right-of-way. Since that time there has been considerable speculation
in print and heard over the airwaves about whether or not he was wearing a
helmet. Yes, in fact he was wearing a helmet that came off during the
collision or its devastating aftermath. Although this topic is especially
significant because of Marty's position with ABATE, the same thing happens
every time there is a motorcycle accident.
