CHESTERFIELD — Three years ago, Chesterfield County police officer Gary J. Buro, 34, made the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in the line of duty. Yesterday, about 100 fellow law enforcement officers, friends and supporters sat on their motor bikes and rode 90 miles through Virginia to launch the first annual Gary J. Buro Memorial Foundation Poker Run.

5/6/2009 – WASHINGTON (AFNS) — Senior leaders from the military services gathered together in the Pentagon parking lot May 1 to take part in a National Capital Region Joint Service Motorcycle Safety Event, designed to promote rider safety programs throughout the military.

The two-day event included motorcycle skills demonstrations, lectures on the proper use of safety equipment and a motorcycle rally. Event organizers had motorcycle simulators available for participants to test their riding skills and learn about critical decision making in various traffic scenarios such as inclement weather and increased vehicle volume.

May is “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month”

As the weather improves, motorcycle riders will be hitting the roads throughout the country. In anticipation of this, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration would like to remind motorists to “Share the Road” with motorcycle riders, while motorcycle riders are reminded to follow the rules of the road and wear safety helmets and other protective gear that will increase their visibility. Local organizations are joining with highway safety and law enforcement in proclaiming May 2009 as “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.”

The Commonwealth of Virginia wants you to ride your motorcycle there, and they’re offering incentives that go beyond great scenery and interesting food.

From now through October, riders and passengers traveling in Virginia can collect prize points by having a special passport stamped at participating “Motorcycle Grand Tour” locations.

The Norton Electra Project provides motorcyle lovers with a way to conserve resources and looks to develop an electric motorcycle design.

As spring approaches, motorcycle enthusiasts will hit the road with a familiar rumbling thunder. If you find yourself in Highland County, Va., however, do not be surprised if you notice a soundless, silver motorbike whizzing by you. As Americans search for ways to conserve resources, lawyer and motorcycle enthusiast Brian Richardson has built an electric motorcycle in his kitchen.

A longtime lover of motorcycles, Richardson said he annually hosts a large motorcycle rally on his sheep farm, on which visitors can camp and hear live music during the event.

Walls of Death

Just an interesting article I ran across at

Sandy and I make it a point to go see the Hell Riders Wall of Death Show at the Iron Horse Saloon during Biketoberfest.  Great show, these guys take vintage motorcycles and ride them at high speeds around this wooden barrel. If you have seen the set up at an event but have never coughed up the few bucks to check out the show you should it is well worth it.
