09NR08 – MRF News Release – Bikers Inside The Beltway Date Announcement Delayed

March 19, 2009 by · Comments Off on 09NR08 – MRF News Release – Bikers Inside The Beltway Date Announcement Delayed

The MRF is aware of, and gratified by, the interest in the event we are calling Bikers inside the Beltway. We are also mindful of the fact that we said we would announce the date in early March. Well, here we are and we still don’t have a firm date.

We keep hoping that we can announce the date, but with the clock ticking it is time to offer an explanation.

Since the new Congress went into session, the Motorcycle Riders Foundation has been working with United States Representative Judy Biggert (R – Il) and her staff to secure a site on the Capitol grounds for our event.

International Female Ride Day – May 1, 2009

March 13, 2009 by · 1 Comment

Flagged for the first Friday of May each year, International Female Ride Day, occurring this year on May 1st, prepares to host its third year celebrating women motorcycle enthusiasts around the world. The event has fast become “the date” in women rider’s agendas, embracing the campaign’s request to simply – just ride.

Female Ride Day, the globally synchronized day for women, was designed to emphasize and spotlight the many numbers of women who ride motorcycles, celebrating not only their diversities, but similarities in their shared passion for motorcycling. It became a huge hit at its inception in 2007, instantly identified among women riders and has since tripled in involvement each year. It is now an inescapable campaign, celebrated from all corners of the planet. It now encompasses a range of international cultures and locations including Canada, United States, South Africa, Australia, Greece and the UK to name but a few, with Poland joining in this year.

Police step up interstate patrols

March 12, 2009 by · Comments Off on Police step up interstate patrols

Commuters driving into and out of the rest of Hampton Roads and the Peninsula should use extra care during the next couple of days, as the Virginia State Police have announced stepped-up enforcement along area interstate highways.

The effort represents the next phase of Operation Air, Land and Speed, whose purpose, according to a VSP press release, is “to save lives by preventing traffic fatalities and reminding drivers to buckle up and slow down through high visibility and strict enforcement.”

This will be the second time the enforcement campaign has targeted I-64, I-264, -464 and I-664 in the Hampton Roads area. A similar effort in July yielded 3,303 violations during a two-day period. According to the state police, there were 1,684 speeders stopped, 298 reckless drivers cited, five impaired drivers arrested and 189 seat belt violations written up. The project also resulted in 21 drug or felony arrests.

Walls of Death

March 12, 2009 by · 1 Comment

Just an interesting article I ran across at http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2009/03/walls-of-death-in-amusement-parks-brief.html

Sandy and I make it a point to go see the Hell Riders Wall of Death Show at the Iron Horse Saloon during Biketoberfest.  Great show, these guys take vintage motorcycles and ride them at high speeds around this wooden barrel. If you have seen the set up at an event but have never coughed up the few bucks to check out the show you should it is well worth it.
