Friends take trip of a lifetime

September 10, 2008 by · Comments Off on Friends take trip of a lifetime

Pete Bishop and Ricky Glenn rode their Harley Davidson motorcycles across this great country from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean this summer calling it the trip of a lifetime. They left Virginia Beach on Saturday, June 7 and reached California on June 20. Their wives, Cyndie Bishop and Terri Glenn, joined them in Jackson Hole, Wyoming for several days.

Bishop and Glenn have been friends for many years and ride on country roads in the area. One Sunday afternoon Glenn brought up the idea of riding from coast to coast and at first Bishop thought he was kidding, he wasn’t. And from that point on the dream started to take shape as the two started thinking about the route they would take across this great country and when to make the trip.

MRF Remains Neutral in Presidential Race

With the national parties’ conventions behind us, we no longer have “presumptive” presidential nominees. Senators McCain and Obama are now the standard bearers of their parties. As the summer begins to fade, the campaign for the highest office in the land kicks into high gear.

It’s hardly a surprise that the Motorcycle Riders Foundation should be asked our opinion of the two men seeking the presidency. It should also not come as a shock that the high-spirited men and women who form the framework of this nationwide organization may express opinions on the candidates.

Training by military helps cut cycle deaths

September 8, 2008 by · Comments Off on Training by military helps cut cycle deaths

The November death of an active-duty senior airman on the James River Bridge illustrated two trends that alarmed Virginia’s road safety experts: Increasing numbers of motorcyclists were being killed, and a significant number were ridden by service members.

Nine months later, the Virginia State Police think a tougher enforcement campaign and increased courses for military personnel have helped reduce the number of fatal motorcycle accidents. Through Aug. 22, there were 54 motorcycle fatalities in Virginia, compared with 78 in the same period last year.

Arlington man crosses country on motorcycle to help disabled veterans receive their benefits.

When Arlington resident Rob Reynolds’ one-year tenure as Commander of Chapter 10 of the Disabled American Veterans came to an end, he wanted to do something to mark the occasion.

Since 1984, the former 82nd Airborne infantryman and Special Forces soldier had been involved with the 1.3 million-member organization dedicated to assisting men and women left permanently injured as a result of their wartime service.

A few years back, Harley-Davidson was looking for a veterans’ organization to partner with and had chosen the DAV. Reynolds, an avid Harley rider for almost 30 years, put it all together for the perfect plan: a tribute ride across the country timed to coincide with the national DAV conference in Las Vegas, Nev. that took place at the beginning of August.
