Students get motorcycle-safety lessons

June 1, 2008 by Hersey

Few elementary school students are riding motorcycles yet, but Utah officials are taking their motorcycle safety message to those students in hopes they’ll carry it home to their parents and older siblings.

I think this is an excellent idea. Not too crazy about the fact that they are focusing on helmets, but getting the awareness out there is key. I try to visit my kids’ classrooms during the month of May (Motorcycle Awareness Month) just to show the kids the gear (helmets, leather, gloves, etc) and the bikes. They get a big kick out of it.

You would be surprised at how many of the kids I see later during the year at the grocery store or whatever that are telling their parents “that is the guy that said you need to watch out for motorcycles”.

May not seem like much but every little bit helps.
